Searching Nafta
Shooting on 16mm film in Mozambique, director Ico Costa explores the textures of human behaviour as he follows young men who wonder what lies beyond their immediate surroundings. In the fragments of conversations captured in the Maputo market, a recording studio and on coconut trees, we find daily routines and tedium lead to chit-chat on desire, money and hope. In the interplay between performance and document, poetry emerges from fleeting everyday moments.
I Before Thee
Jeffery hasn't been the same since the loss of his wife who died during childbirth. Now crisis returns to his life, as his only child is diagnosed with leukemia, sending him into a tailspin. He turns away from his faith, feeling that life is no longer worth living. As God brings reminders of His goodness into Jeffery's life, will that be enough to guide him back to what matters most?

Here the young priest's son walked from Ku Klux Klan and murderers to the blacks at the bottom of the American dream. Jacob's approach to life led him into the struggle to transform racism hatred into love between people. But what inner demons drove the vagabond from place to place? We see Jacob when he confronts the sins of the past and clears up. It is embarrassing when long forgotten secrets are revealed; it is intoxicating when old flames suddenly ignite in glowing passion; It's brutal when death reaps in the garden of love. Can the long threads of life be merged like the vagabond's own beard? This roadmovie is a tribute to 'American Pictures' and to the journey, the adventure, the wisdom and, not least, the love.
