Theater director Falke, dressed as a bat, ends up in prison after a merry carnival night. Director Frank only releases him after some time. Falke decides to take revenge on his friend Gabriel von Eisenstein, to whom he owes the whole affair. The annual masked ball at Prince Orlofsky's provides the opportunity. Falke stages a game of mistaken identity in which Eisenstein does not recognize his own wife and courts her, while maid Adele appears as the countess. Eisenstein is duped, Falke has taken his revenge.

The Great Love
Ten years after the end of World War I, Austrian soldier Franz leaves Russia and returns to his village, where he is reunited with Frieda, a woman who believes he is her long-lost son. She seeks him out and greets him with such loving joy, that Franz doesn't have the heart to tell her the truth. He stays with her and when he gets to know his new girlfriend Annie, he begs her to hide his true identity from Annie. Annie, for her part, has seen through this charade already, but chooses to say nothing and to continue to care for Franz.

Polly Petterson is a major customer of the Van Geldern bank, which manages her assets to the tune of one million. When she wants to withdraw the entire amount, the bank, which has speculated, threatens to go bankrupt. The employee Peter Voss then steals the million as a pretense and flees. By agreement, he is to hide until the price of the copper he invested in rises again. Polly hires detective Bobby Dodd and follows the apparent bank robber to Portugal, Brazil, the Wild West and Hawaii. There, Peter Voss is able to convince the rich Polly of his good intentions - and when the bank is saved, there is even a wedding.
