Against all expectations, after surviving Stalin’s notorious Magadan labor camp, he resumed work for Soviet secret services and lived on until 1993, passing away at the age of 97.

Although Tashiro is not a suspect in the police investigation, he is racked with guilt and confesses to his wife, Masako.
