Hamaguchi wrote and directed this film as a graduation project for the students at ENBU Seminar (film and theater school in Tokyo) when he taught there. It is a three-part film: The first part is a documentary-style production of a play; Then the actual full stage production of the play; and the epilogue. Poetry and written words play the central role in the movie.

The Depths
After a failed wedding shoot, Bae-hwan meets Ryu—a callboy tangled in a murder case—and offers him a way out.

Base 9
It's WWIII, and the Englishmen has established a base near the east coast of England. Some leaked information also tells the Norwegians that the Englishmen has plans of attacking Norway, taking the Russian side of the war. The Norwegian General sends Corporal Normann, with his loyal Private Refsdal over the ocean to attack the 9th base from the north, called Base 9.

The Mine
A film dedicated to miners, showing the hardship and risk of working in a mine. Devoid of verbal commentary, it draws its impact from the form: suggestive cinematography close to the pre-war avant-garde, dynamic editing closely linked to music. Brzozowska was accused of formalism at the 1949 Congress of Filmmakers in Wisła, where socialist realism was proclaimed.
