Tenebrae Lessons

“The Nineties had a pretty bad start”, this is how Vincent Dieutre introduces us to the shadows of his personal universe in those years going through Utrecht, Naples and Rome. In these three cities and two love affairs guide a homosexual man on his nightly search for lost beauty. In a cross between a diary and a baroque play the film reconstructs the fragments of a fateful journey against a Caravaggio backdrop. Painting, sensuality, losing oneself in a cityscape: the Leçons de ténèbres form an obscure fresco, a white-hot collage of trashy vanity.

Terrorists in Retirement

Not just another documentary on the French resistance movement, this film focuses on one particular group of underground fighters in France: those from Eastern Europe. Many were Jews and all had fled their native countries before the war broke out. They were among the most staunch and fearless enemies of fascism, as shown here in personal interviews and memoirs of war-time experiences. But the most famous of these immigrants were 23 who were rounded up among several hundred Parisians in 1943, tried for their activities, and executed -- all were immigrants under the leadership of the Armenian poet Manouchian. After their execution, Paris was papered with posters decrying these 23 martyrs as "foreign communists."

The Song of Stone

Erbarme dich - Matthäus Passion Stories

Erbarme dich - Matthäus Passion Stories is a labyrinthine narrative in which notables such as Peter Sellars, Emio Greco, Simon Halsey and painter Rinke Nijburg explain their special relationship with Bach’s St Matthew Passion to Ramón Gieling (Johan Cruijff: en un momento dado). They speak against the backdrop of a church which has fallen into disrepair, while a choir of homeless people and Pieter Jan Leusink’s Bach Choir & Orchestra rehearse the Passion. Leusink isn't just the conductor, he is one of the main characters himself, with a painful past in which this musical piece has played a dominant role. Stories from the others alternate seamlessly with this. We learn how the St Matthew Passion played a decisive role in the relations between men and women, fathers and sons, fathers and daughters, mothers and their unborn children, and finally that in spite of our differences we all find a common denominator in the secret of Bach's music.

After a series of bad decisions, the three fans are between the Russian mafia, huge amount of drugs, and huge debt. So they decide to rob the Hollywood production which their childhood idol is shooting.

At least that's what the roommate of the apartment building where Robert lives thought, and sent him a live guinea pig by mail. The guinea pig gets lost in the apartment and Robert, to the amazement of his parents, studies books about animals and is sad that he lost the guinea pig. Imagine the astonishment of his father and his colleagues from the design studio when the father finds the guinea pig in his briefcase...

When Rita's husband Werner suddenly passes away, Almuth has to help her. This is not easy for her and she is also struggling with her own problems. Klaus expects Almuth to finally make a decision about their relationship and then her daughter Kathrin moves in with her after separating from her husband. When Rita then interferes in Almuth's life, the women really start to quarrel. The cleaning lady has little understanding for Frau Doktor's throwaway mentality. In the end, Rita terminates Almuth's extraordinary friendship. Can the two opposing women find their way back to each other?
