Kerstin floats stoically across the Mecklenburg Lake District in her red GDR kayak. Aimlessly, between tourism and dreariness, she glides over the water for days, striving to remain alone. The many rivers and lakes are familiar to her. But where does Kerstin come from? What is she fleeing from? Who is pursuing her? The evenness of this journey breaks when Alima appears, finally asking the paddling loner the right questions.

Produced by WGBH-TV in Boston, THE MEDIUM IS THE MEDIUM is one of the earliest and most prescient examples of the collaboration between public television and the emerging field of video art in the U.S. WGBH commissioned artists – Allan Kaprow, Nam June Paik, Otto Piene, James Seawright, Thomas Tadlock, and Aldo Tambellini – to create original works for broadcast television. Their works explored the parameters of the new medium, from image processing and interactivity to video dance and sculpture.

Romance on the Ranch
When starting a new chapter in her life, Sara didn't need any distractions. Selling her place, buying a camper, and heading West was what she felt she needed to find happiness again. When her truck breaks down in the mid-west, she is invited to park her camper on a family ranch while her truck is repaired. Here is where the distractions come in the form of two brothers, who are as different as night and day. Porter is young, strong, and eager to please.
